The RT8485GS is a programmable high efficient LED driver IC, which is suited for general lighting and back lighting applications such as residential, commercial and automotive lighting. The RT8485GS is an ideal option for current-mode, peak-current-mode and constant-current driving modes, enabling flexibility and high efficiency for light-emitting diode (LED) applications. The RT8485GS provides up to a high power factor of 0.97, low output ripple of typical 150mV in CC mode, and low standby power of ±3mW/kHz in standby mode. With a wide input voltage range of 6.0V ~ 32.0V and 200 kHz switching frequency, the device offers a high-efficiency solution with the smallest solution size and cost.The RT8485GS is designed to drive LEDs with current-mode and peak-current-mode PFM control. In current-mode control, the RT8485GS will operate with minimum output current ripple, while in peak-current-mode, the RT8485GS can reach a high level of efficiency with a low input current. The RT8485GS supports LED dimming interface via external resistor, allowing LED brightness adjustment for different lighting scenarios. The device also features a thermal-shutdown protection and provides over-voltage protection when used for LED strings with multiple LED devices.

This device is ideal for static paralleling or series/parallel configuration lighting systems and driving multiple strings of LEDs. The peak current is controlled by the external peak current control loop, while the switching frequency is adjusted by the PWM feedback loop. In peak-current-mode control, a PFM feedback loop is used to adjust the output current. The device also features a built-in soft-start for both current-mode and peak-current-mode controls.
