RT9818C-33GU3 is a high precision on-chip voltage supervisor IC for Battery management systems (BMSs). It is a member of the supervisor family from Richtek series. It is designed for 1-cell lithium-ion (Li-ion) or lithium-polymer (Li-polymer) battery applications. The supervisor family from Richtek is the best choice to protect Li-ion or Li-polymer battery packs from over-voltage, under-voltage, and over-current induced failures. This family also helps to reduce energy consumption and maximize system efficiency.

RT9818C-33GU3 is suitable for use in typical applications such as battery powered portable handheld devices, battery powered equipment and Industrial power supplies that must operate in the presence of line transients and fluctuating ambient temperatures. The device features on-chip voltage supervisor circuitry, an integrated window voltage comparator with input hysteresis, and a highly reliable P-channel MOSFET. RT9818C-33GU3 is compatible with most microcontrollers, DSPs and other microprocessors, and is especially popular for applications that require superior overcharge, over-discharge, over-temperature and short-circuit protection. Working principle
RT9818C-33GU3 contains one precision voltage comparator with a push-pull output and one window comparator. When the voltage drop across the device is below a certain threshold voltage, the output of the voltage comparator is activated. This output is connected to the gate of the integrated P-Channel MOSFET, pulling the output low, ensuring that the battery is discharged or not fully charged. When the input voltage rises above the threshold, the output of the voltage comparator is deactivated and the P-channel is turned off, enabling the battery to be charged or discharged. In addition, the RT9818C-33GU3 has built-in over-voltage, under-voltage, and over-temperature detection circuitry to provide additional protection for battery powered equipment.
The device also includes an integrated window voltage comparator with adjustable input hysteresis to prevent false triggering caused by noise or spikes. The high voltage side of the window voltage comparator can be used to monitor battery voltage levels and provide an early warning of over-voltage conditions. When the voltage of the battery exceeds the upper preset value, the open-drain output of the comparator will be pulled low to indicate an over-voltage condition. The user can also monitor the low voltage trip point of the window voltage comparator to detect under-voltage situations.
The RT9818C-33GU3 also incorporates an Over-temperature Protection circuit that can detect abnormal temperature conditions and shut down the system if it detects an over-temperature condition. This protection mechanism can operate in either single-cell or multi-cell Li-ion/ Li-polymer applications.
The RT9818C-33GU3 combines these features in a small memory IC capability, which is ideal for Li-Ion or Li-Polymer battery applications that require high reliability and long service life. It has the advantage of providing full over-voltage, under-voltage, and over-temperature protection, while minimizing board space and power consumption.
