PTC Resettable Fuses are widely used in producing a wide range of protection benefits from low-voltage current overload to short-circuit protection in a variety of electronic applications. A PTC Resettable Fuses (RUEF160-2) is a type of resettable fuse which works by applying a limited amount of current through a network of resistive components which are typically fabricated as an integrated circuit. The current flow is detected by a temperature sensor, and when the current flow reaches a preset level, the resistor contacts are melted, opening the circuit and stopping the current flow.

A Resettable Fuses RUEF160-2 consists of a substrate, typically made of glass, ceramic or plastic, on which a network of resistive components is laid out. This network is connected to a temperature sensor, which will detect the current when it passes through the resistive components. The temperature sensor may be made of materials such as carbon, silicon, or other materials with positive temperature coefficients (PTCs). The resistive components are typically made of materials such as nickel, silver, or other noble metals.

When current reaches a preset level, the temperature of the resistive components will rise, causing the resistors to melt and open the circuit. As the current is blocked, the temperature will decrease, and the resistors will reset, again allowing the current flow. This process can be repeated many times, thus providing reliable protection from short circuits and current overload.

RUEF160-2 has a wide application field, such as electric equipment such as computers, industrial automation systems, communications systems, computers, consumer electronics, lights, motor controllers, converters, circuit breakers, and other equipment related with energy production and distribution, automotive, lighting, medical equipment, and many other applications where the current needs to be monitored and protective measures taken against short circuits and excessive current.

The primary advantages of the RUEF160-2 are the ability to reset multiple times, long life, and low cost. The design of the fuse also allows for high accuracy and low power consumption. As the operational environment of these components is extremely hostile, the RUEF160-2 also provides additional protection against mechanical impact.

The working principle of a RUEF160-2 is relatively simple. When the current reaches a preset level, the temperature of the resistive component will increase, melting the resistors and blocking the current, while also activating the temperature sensor. Once the current has been blocked, the temperature decreases, and as the resistors cool down, they reset the circuit and allow for the safe conduction of the current.

As the RUEF160-2 is a resettable fuse, it offers an excellent form of protection as the current can be stopped when it reaches a dangerous level, thus avoiding permanent damage to equipment. This makes it a popular choice for many electronic applications as it offers reliable and efficient protection against common hazards such as short circuits and current overloads.
