Thyristors, also known as silicon controlled rectifiers (SCRs) are a group of solid-state switching devices capable of being triggered into conduction by a small electric current or voltage. Among them, the S2004VS2 is a bi-directional, fast-switching SCR, with an average on-state current of 20 Amps and a peak on-state current rating of 75 Amps for complex applications. If a negative voltage is applied and the SCR becomes reverse-biased, the circuit remains open and current does not flow. The S2004VS2 SCR has an internal voltage comparator which monitors the voltage at the anode, and triggers the SCR into conductive mode when it rises above the set threshold. When the anode-to-cathode voltage falls below the threshold, the SCR is switched off.
