Working Principle

The SA14CAHE3/54 TVS diode has two sub-components: the first one is an active component, which is composed of different back-to-back diodes to protect from reverse breakdowns, while the second one is a steering diode, which is used to activate the clamping process and protect the circuit from high pulse voltages. When the surge voltage applied to it exceeds the specified level, the SA14CAHE3/54 TVS diode will redirect the current following the steering diode until it reaches a safe level.

The SA14CAHE3/54 TVS diode is designed to guard the circuit against transien voltages of up to 14 Volts. The component is composed of two functional parts: the load current path to protect against high levels of transients, and a steering diode to direct the positive pulses to the supply line in an orderly manner. This way, the diode protects the electronics by reducing the energy of transient electrical signals and shunting them to the ground.
