The SA45C-E3/54 is a unidirectional device, the anode connected to the positive voltage supply and the cathode connected to the ground. In normal operation, the device is non-conducting, no current flows between the anode and the cathode. During an overvoltage or high-voltage transient, the diode will enter its breakdown region, allowing current to flow from anode to cathode. This provides protection for sensitive components and circuit boards from damage due to voltage surges.
The working principle of the SA45C-E3/54 is based on the reverse breakdown voltage of the device. In normal operation, the diode is non-conducting and no current flows. When the reverse breakdown voltage of the diode is exceeded, the current passes from the anode to the cathode. The result is that the SA45C-E3/54 functions as a clamp for controlling the voltage applied to the load.
The SA45C-E3/54 has a wide range of applications. It can be used in the protection of high-speed data lines, such as USB, RS232, RJ45, VGA, and DVI interfaces, and also in the protection of telecom and computer equipment against ESD and other overvoltage transients.
