SA7.5-E3/54 Application Field and Working Principle
TVS - (Transient Voltage Suppression) diodes are used to protect both the electronic circuits and components from any malfunction due to overvoltage or high transient voltage. These diodes are used in power system protection, computer and appliance the surge protection, telecommunications equipment surge protection and automotive electronic system protection.The SA7.5-E3/54 is a sensitive transient voltage suppression diode which provides the necessary protection to the electronic devices. The connected devices, such as resistors, capacitors, transformers, and semiconductor devices, are protected against over voltage and surges up to a surge figure determined by the breakdown voltage of the diode.Working Principle
The SA7.5-E3/54 is a uni-directional TVS diode. When the incoming surge currents reach a specific voltage, the diode enters in its breakdown region and starts clamping the overvoltage. This action is determined by the breakdown voltage which is a steady-state voltage where an avalanche occurs. This breakdown voltage is represented by the peak pulse power of the TVS diode.The working of the SA7.5-E3/54 is based on the PN junction of the diode. In the off state, the PN junction created allows redistribution of the charge carriers on either side of the junction. With a surge voltage, the current increases exponentially and the avalanche occurs which causes the breakdown of the junction. This creates a low impedance network between the anode and cathode and the overvoltage or surge is forced to flow from anode to cathode.Protection Functions
The SA7.5-E3/54 has several protective functions which make it ideal for protecting sensitive electronic components from overvoltage and surges. Some of the features of the diode are:1.
