The SC4812STRT is a DC-DC switching regulator controller developed by the Taiwanese semiconductor manufacturer SCMicroelectronics. It is part of the PMIC (Power Management Integrated Circuit) family of voltage regulators. The controller integrates a Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) controller and a Peak Current Detect (PCD) circuit with a built-in error amplifier and an analog voltage reference.

Working Principle

The SC4812STRT is a hysteretic, fixed frequency, DC-DC switching regulator controller. It operates on the principle of Continuous Conduction Mode (CCM). This mode of operation is characterized by the Arduino PWM pulses being kept constant in width while the duty cycle is varied to maintain the required output voltage. To ensure that the regulator performs effectively in CCM, the controller regulates the output voltage by sensing the output current using the built-in PCD circuit. This circuit monitors the output current and triggers a switching cycle when the monitored current exceeds a certain threshold.

The controller also includes a built-in error amplifier, as well as a voltage reference loop that allows the output voltage to be adjusted by varying the reference voltage. The controller\'s PWM controller uses a voltage-mode technique to regulate the output voltage and the duty cycle is then adjusted in order to maintain a constant output voltage.
