Working Principle

When a positive voltage is applied to the P-side of the diode, the P-N junction can no longer hold the electrons on the N-side and current passes through the diode. When a negative voltage is applied, the P-N junction is no longer able to hold the electrons on the P-side and the current is prevented from flowing.
