SI5321-G-BC application field and working principleThe SI5321-G-BC is a high performance multi-output clock generator IC intended for clock generation, distribution and jitter attenuation applications. The SI5321-G-BC device offers a total of nine outputs, three differential and six single-ended. This device is suitable for applications operating from 9 to 52 MHz.The SI5321-G-BC is part of Silicon Laboratories\' ClockBuilder Pro family, a new family of clock generators and jitter attenuators designed to simplify clock design and reduce total system cost. The device is integrated with Silicon Labs\' ClockBuilder Pro software, which provides automatic programmable control capabilities through web-based graphical user interface. The SI5321-G-BC is available in a 3×3mm, 24-pin QFN package. This device features low frequency jitter, wide frequency range, low skew, high frequency stability, and on-chip high frequency PLL.  The SI5321-G-BC is ideal for use in applications such as telecommunications, computing, and industrial equipment.The working principle of the SI5321-G-BC is based on the following components: PLL – The on-chip phase-locked-loop (PLL) subsystem is used to generate a low jitter clock. The PLL requires an external clock source. This external clock can either be provided directly to the input of the PLL or through the fractional-N divider. The PLL generates a low jitter output at a frequency determined by the feedback from the fractional-N or integer-N divider. Output divider – The output divider is used to generate the required output frequency. The divider is programmable, allowing a wide range of operating frequencies to be generated. Output driver – Output drivers are used to drive the output signal to the pin. The output drivers are usually either open-collector FETs or 3-state buffers. Output masterslave – The output master/slave logic allows up to eight slave outputs to be synchronized with a master output. This means that multiple clocks can be running in a synchronized fashion. Low Power Modes – The device features two power modes, which can be used to preserve power when the device is running in normal mode or when it is in standby mode. Jitter Attenuator – The SI5321-G-BC features an on-chip jitter attenuator, which can be used to reduce the jitter on the output clock. Jitter is a concern in clock generation because it leads to timing errors and data corruption. The on-chip jitter attenuator allows the SI5321-G-BC to generate highly reliable and accurate clock signals. The SI5321-G-BC is designed to provide a cost effective, low jitter solution for clock generation, jitter attenuation, and frequency synthesis applications. The device provides multiple outputs with low jitter and wide frequency range, while also providing a high degree of programmability. The on-chip jitter attenuator, low power modes, and master/slave logic make this device well suited for use in clock generation, distribution, and jitter attenuation applications.The SI5321-G-BC is an excellent choice for clock generation, distribution, and jitter attenuation applications.
