The SI5335D-B08644-GMR (hereinafter referred to as the SI5335) is a clock generator, phase-locked loop (PLL) and frequency synthesizer from Silicon Labs. Clock/timing systems are essential elements in modern electronics, allowing a device to coordinate multiple operations within itself and communicate with other components. Using this reference input, the frequency synthesis circuit employs a combination of an analog phase-locked loop (PLL) and a digital frequency lock loop (FLL) to generate up to six clock outputs.
The PLL is used to precisely multiply or divide the reference frequency up to 24x in a single step, with an integrated divider circuit providing flexible frequency hopping and spread spectrum options. The FLL is a digital frequency loop which maintains output frequency accuracy, allowing the reference frequency to be tracked over a wide range of temperature, voltage and process corners, with low output frequency drift. The SI5335 also supports easy integration into systems by providing multiple clock outputs, each of which is independently configurable.
The SI5335 allows a designer to select the appropriate PLL topology, depending on the application requirements, with options for single loop, dual loop, phase/frequency detector (PFD) detect, FLL detect and charge pump detect. This feature allows the SI5335 to be used in a wide range of applications, from low-frequency jitter-sensitive point-of-sale applications to high-frequency networking and telecommunications applications.
The SI5335 is designed for applications in the Enterprise, Industrial and Consumer segments, with a variety of advanced features to optimize system performance. These include FlexComm with flexibility to configure the SI5335 for a large range of system demands, Advanced System Calibration (ASC) for accuracy and reliability of GPS receivers and other navigation systems, and Selectable Loop Filters for customizing the loop bandwidth and settling times to suit the application. The SI5335 also features an advanced PowerSafe architecture which reduces operating current when the device is in standby mode, while maintaining the same performance as a full power device.
