The SI5335B-B05273-GM is an innovative Clock Generator, Phase-Locked Loop (PLL) and Frequency Synthesizer integrated circuit (IC) which combines a wide range of features and functions with an outstanding performance. This IC device is part of the Silicon Labs Clock/Timing product family and enables a wide range of applications such as test and measurement, broadcast and satellite applications, industrial, consumer and computing. The SI5335B-B05273-GM offers a wide frequency range from 160 kHz to 528 MHz, low rms phase jitter of 35 fs, fully phase lock-omnidirectional phase alignment, low noise and power consumption, programmable output selectable and adjustable, multiple programmable on-chip functions, low-power consumption, high-current output, and a wide temperature range1.

This IC\'s circuit architecture consists of several independent plates and pins. The main sections are a clock input port, a freq. Input port the Analog Front End (AFE) module, the digital control logic, the Loop Filter, the Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO), the Fractional N Frequency Multiplier, the Programmable Anti-backlash Pulse Generator (PABG), the Programmable Differential Output, the Reference Frequency Generator and the Output MUXs. The clock input port receives the external clock signal and transfers it to the AFE. The AFE is responsible for signal filtering, signal conditioning, and provides digital output to the control logic. The digital control logic section contains digital-controlled oscillator (DCO) and other digital signal processing modules to enable sophisticated frequency synthesis algorithms to synthesize frequency from the input signal. It also provides input to the VCO for controlling the VCO frequency and for producing the required VCO range.

The Loop Filter section is used to filter the VCO output signal and reduce noise. The Fractional-N Frequency Multiplier section is responsible for multiplying the VCO frequency. This creates fine-grain frequency resolution and flexibility. The PABG is responsible for providing the timing signals for synchronizing the supply voltage ripple and to reduce the output spurs. The Programmable Differential Output section is used for output buffer control and to provide adjustable output amplitude. The Reference Frequency Generator section is responsible for generating the reference oscillator frequency. The Output MUXs are used to select between the various frequency outputs they support.
