Introduction

SI5335C-B09030-GM is a Clock/Timing - Clock Generators, PLLs and Frequency Synthesizers developed by Silicon Labs. It is a highly integrated programmable clock generator that provides varies output frequencies with no additional external components. It is capable of very low jitter and RMS jitter in the order of 260fs, making it an ideal solution for those looking for a very accurate clock source. It runs on a logic voltage of 1.8V to 3.3V, features a wide operating temperature range of -40℃ to +85℃, and is available in a small 6x6mm QFN package.

Working Principle

SI5335C-B09030-GM features a highly-integrated programmable 90 MHz reference clock and two 106MHz or two 84MHz output clock configurations, both of which can attain perfectly equally-spaced clock frequencies.The core of this clock generator is the Phase Locked Loop (PLL) that locks certain frequencies by using a VCO (Voltage Controlled Oscillator). It operates in two main modes, the first of which is Tracking Mode. In this mode, the reference clock is generated with very low jitter and is fed to the input pin of the PLL block, which then generates the desired output frequency. The other mode is bySweep Mode, where the PLL tunes the VCO output according to the user-defined Sweep parameters. Furthermore, this clock generator can also accept divide-by-N or Fractional-N configurations through its programming pins. In the case of divide-by-N (D/N) configuration, the output frequency provided by the PLL is equal to the reference clock multiplied by a number of N. Fractional-N configuration allows the VCO to be set to a fraction of the PLL input frequency.SI5335C-B09030-GM also makes use of a differential clock architecture in order to minimize phase-noise. As the clock is split into two lines, a high frequency and a low frequency, the noise between the two lines can be evenly distributed, thereby producing low jitter operations.
