The SI5341C-B-GM: Application Field and Working Principle
Clock/Timing - Clock Generators, PLLs, Frequency SynthesizersThe SI5341C-B-GM is a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) designed for use as a clock generator, phase-locked loop (PLL), frequency synthesizer, and programmable source of high frequency, low noise signals for various applications. The device is powered by a single 3.3V supply and uses a low-power, highly-integrated silicon process, allowing for low-noise operation and a maximum operating speed of up to 13 GHz.The SI5341C-B-GM has three main operating modes: the standard operating mode, the differential PLL mode, and the multi-PLL mode. In the standard operating mode, the SI5341C-B-GM generates a single output frequency using an external reference frequency as input. The output frequency is programmable using the on-chip register, and can be adjusted over a range of 10MHz to 12GHz. The output frequency can also be adjusted by up to ± 2.5% using an external voltage.In the differential PLL mode, the SI5341C-B-GM is used to generate a pair of oscillation frequencies in the range of 1MHz to 3GHz. The differential outputs can be programmed either to scan the entire frequency range or to maintain a predetermined frequency ratio. In addition, the frequency ratio and output phase can be monitored and controlled through the on-chip registers.The multi-PLL mode of operation allows the SI5341C-B-GM to generate multiple outputs simultaneously from a single reference frequency. The frequency, amplitude and phase of the outputs can be programmed over a range of frequencies. The multi-PLL output frequencies can be adjusted by up to ± 2.5% using an external voltage, allowing for simple and fast fine-tuning of the frequencies.The SI5341C-B-GM also features a register set for controlling the output characteristics of the device, including the output frequency and amplitude, and for monitoring the device’s internal status. The out-of-lock alarm and power supply monitor can be enabled or disabled through the register set and the status can be monitored through an interrupt request pin.Finally, the SI5341C-B-GM is an I2C compatible device. The device has two I2C serial interfaces, which provide an easy and fast way of programming the device and setting up the device’s various operating modes.In conclusion, the SI5341C-B-GM is a high-performance, low-noise VCO designed for use as a clock generator, PLL, or frequency synthesizer.
