The SI5350C-A-GM is a highly customizable software-programmable clock generator and fanout device from Silicon Labs. It is designed for applications involving frequency synthesis, clock multiplication and distribution, jitter reduction, and output conditioning.

The SI5350C-A-GM is part of the Any Frequency Clock (AFC) family and offers 3 independent output banks, total of 10 output clocks. It can produce very precise frequencies from 100 MHz up to 1600 MHz, with an integrated jitter filter and phase-locked loop (PLL).

Application Field

Working Principle

The SI5350C-A-GM clock generator works by using a phase-locked loop (PLL) to generate the output signals. The PLL is a circuit that uses feedback to synchronize an oscillator with a reference frequency. The reference frequency is typically generated with a quartz crystal, and the oscillator is driven with a voltage control oscillator (VCO).

The PLL takes in the reference frequency and the VCO output and compares the phases of the two signals. The comparison is done by the phase-frequency detector (PFD), which is part of the PLL. The PFD then sends an output signal to the loop filter, which filters out any noise and produces a control voltage that is used to control the VCO.

The PLL then adjusts the frequency of the VCO to match the reference frequency so that the output of the PLL is in phase with the reference frequency. The output of the PLL is then used as the output of the chip. The SI5350C-A-GM can then be used to generate multiple output frequencies from a single reference frequency.

The SI5350C-A-GM also has an integrated jitter filter that reduces any jitter on the reference signal, ensuring that the output signals are of high quality and accuracy. The chip also has an integrated fanout buffer to distribute the output signals to multiple outputs.
