Working principle

The SI8662EB-B-IU uses an optically-coupled transparent element to isolate two different sections of a digital control system. The two sections are kept totally isolated from each other, while communication is transferred through optical signals. The optocoupler is an IC containing an LED light source, a phototransistor, two resistors and an operational amplifier. This optocoupler isolates the power bi directionally between the two sections. It also monitors any change in the voltage and current levels between the two sections. When a voltage and/or current change in one of the sections is detected, the light source is activated, which in turn activates the phototransistor. This will cause the operational amplifier to activate, if it is not already in the active state.

The operational amplifier is used to detect any spike, change in current or voltage, or abrupt increase in the current or voltage level. If any of these events occur, the operational amplifier will turn on the LED light source which will activate the phototransistor, thereby causing the current to flow from the source to the load. This allows for a seamless transfer of signal without any disruption or damage.

The SI8662EB-B-IU also has an integral temperature sensor which allows it to detect any increase in temperature, so that the system can be shut down safely in case of high temperature. There is also an input filter which ensures that spurious signals do not affect the system, thus making it highly reliable and stable.
