Digital isolators are used in a wide variety of applications for isolating digital signals from one another when only digital signals exist or when other electrical isolation techniques aren’t appropriate solutions. A digital isolator such as the SI8715BC-A-IS offers superior electrical isolation performance, which allow for high data transmission between systems operating at different common-mode potentials while maintaining the highest levels of signal integrity.

The SI8715BC-A-IS is a 4-channel digital isolator with 1 kV CM isolation rating between channels. It has a maximum data rate of 80 Mbps and a low power consumption of 1.4 mW/channel. The device operates over a wide temperature range from -40°C to 85°C.

The SI8715BC-A-IS provides four channels of digital signal isolation, providing the highest levels of signal integrity and electrical isolation. Each channel consists of a transmitter and receiver, each powered by its own isolated supply. The transmitter takes in input data, encodes it using an 8B/10B data encoding algorithm, and transmits it as a serialized data stream across the isolation barrier on the output, RGD-bar side. The receiver on the other side, processes the data and presents it as an LVDS output.

The SI8715BC-A-IS is designed to function as a repeater in CAN bus and other high speed serial communication systems to isolate the wire or output transceiver circuitry. The device provides isolation between each of the four channels, as well as between each channel and ground, and is able to carry out analog-to-digital conversion on the incoming signal, allowing the device to convert low speed (125 kbps) to high speed (1.5 Mbps) and vice versa.

The SI8715BC-A-IS is also suitable for inverting digital signals, such as those in integrated circuits (ICs) and logic gates. It can be used as a buffer between different logic families, such as SRAM and FLASH, and can also be used to reduce voltage references between devices operating at different power levels. The device is also capable of isolating digital signals from ground-referenced and low-frequency (1 kHz to 10 kHz) signals.

In addition, the SI8715BC-A-IS provides protection against ESD and transients, as well as excellent EMI suppression. It has a low-power idle state, which helps reduce overall power consumption. The device also does not require any external components for operation, which reduces installation time and cost.

The SI8715BC-A-IS is ideally suited for applications in automotive systems, industrial automation, medical instrumentation, and other systems where electrical isolation is required to protect equipment and personnel.
