SIM3L154-C-GM is an embedded microcontroller designed by Dialog Semiconductor that represents the latest evolution of highly integrated, low power, 8-channel data converters, that are suitable for consumer applications such as audio amplifiers, active speakers, and consumer electronics as well as industrial and automotive applications.

The SIM3L154-C-GM includes all major features required for digital signal processing in consumer audio applications, and is factory programmed for use in consumer audio amplifiers, active speakers and consumer electronics. It features an 8-channel SelectMux A/D0 converter; and up to four 8-channel SelectMux D/A1 converters.

The range of features supported by SIM3L154-C-GM includes:

  • Up to 1 Mbytes of Flash Program Memory, and up to 512 Kbytes of SRAM Data Memory
  • On-board oscillator
  • Up to 4 8-channel, SelectMux D/A converters
  • Up to 8-channel, SelectMux, A/D converter
  • Support for automatic gain control, dynamic range compression, and zero-crossing detection
  • Supports several audio processing and mixing algorithms and multiple audio codecs
  • Integrated non-volatile memory
  • Single supply operation +2.7 V to +3.6 V

The working principle of SIM3L154-C-GM microcontroller is based on the ANSI C language. It is a stack-based microcontroller, which uses a RISC architecture and executes instructions from a stack. This allows for faster execution of code and reduces the amount of memory required. The stack also facilitates inter-processor communication, as the stack can be shared between multiple processors.

The SIM3L154-C-GM features an 8-bit CPU that consists of 2 general purpose accumulators, 6 index registers, and 4 pointer registers. The device also features a Digital Signal Processor (DSP) that is capable of executing up to 256 instructions per second. The DSP supports multiple audio codecs and complex algorithms for audio processing and mixing.

SIM3L154-C-GM microcontroller also has a dedicated peripheral control unit (PCU) that provides an interface to external peripherals such as Timers, UARTs and I2C buses. The PCU is responsible for controlling the transfer of data between the processor(s) and the various peripherals. The PCU also controls the interrupt system, allowing the processor to respond to external events.
