When the MOSFET is on, it will connect the input to the inductor, so the current will flow through the inductor in the same direction until the MOSFET switch is turned off. When the switch is turned off, the magnetic field of the inductor will be instantly dropped, thus pushing back the output voltage to the input, and the current through the inductor will be reversed. This process will continue until the output voltage reaches the intended output voltage level, at which time the regulation circuit will start regulating the output voltage and provide protection against over voltage, over current and short circuit.The opto-coupler will sense the feedback voltage at the output side and send the signal back to the regulator comparator so that the regulator can adjust the PWM duty cycle to balance the output voltage to the intended level.
