The SIP32409EVB is an evaluation and demonstration board of the SIL24009 Ultra-Low Power, USB-Enabled Universal Serial Bus Interface IC. This versatile board is a low-cost solution to demonstrating the capability of SIL24009 and contains a range of applications for applications in fields such as electrical/electronic engineering, mechanical engineering, consumer and portable electronics, automation and controls, healthcare, and industrial automation.

The SIP32409EVB board is designed to rapidly prototype high performance, low power, USB-enabled product designs, and demonstrate the capability of SIL24009 Ultra-Low Power USB Interface ICs. The board features two independent voltage regulators that can supply a total 3.3V and 5V output. The high-efficiency buck regulator is capable of driving up to 1A and the low dropout linear regulator drives a maximum current of 500mA. The board includes two USB Type A host connectors for connecting to USB storage devices, USB printers, and other USB-enabled devices.

As part of the evaluation and demonstration package, the SIP32409EVB board includes the following features and components: USB 2.0 high speed transceiver, a low power Buck regulator with efficient power conversion characteristics, a low dropout linear regulator, a DC/DC step up/down converter, an RS232 level converter, an SPI port buffer, an ISD2200/3200 dual channel 8-bit bridging application, and I2C peripherals. In addition to these standard features, the board features two optional SIP24009 Ultra-Low Power USB interface controllers, which enable the board to interface with USB-enabled products such as digital cameras, camcorders, and smart phones.

The working principle behind the board is simple: the on board voltage regulators, transceivers, and I2C peripherals generate and convert the DC voltage signal, which is then communicated via the USB port and converted to the appropriate digital signal. This digital data is then routed to the I2C peripheral, which in turn controls and configures the SIP24009 Ultra-Low Power USB interface controller. With the SIP24009, low power peripheral control is achieved, as the device can enter into low power mode when idle or when no data transfer is requested. This low power mode helps to extend battery life, which is ideal for portable applications.
