Application Field and Working Principle

The SIP32467EVB is a step-up voltage regulator controller designed to control and regulate DC motors. The board provides the user with a high level of flexibility, via its adjustable features, as well as its wide input voltage range and a high efficient operation. The digital input is supported via a DIP switch to set parameters such as motor current limit, frequency and output voltage.

The board ahs both a voltage regulator and a PWM controller. The voltage regulator acts as the control source to set the motor output voltage, while the PWM controller ensures that the operating frequency and the output current are maintained at the optimal levels.

The controller features an over-current protection and over-temperature protection. If an over-current condition is detected the voltage regulator reduces the output voltage and the PWM controller reduces the output frequency, thus reducing the current. In the event of an over-temperature condition the voltage regulator reduces the output voltage and the PWM controller stops the motor. The stall detection feature is also provided to detect the motor stalls.

Despite its small size, the board is capable of providing efficient motor control. The board can deliver up to 97% efficiency and the emitted electromagnetic interference (EMI) is also low. The current sense based current limiting feature also adds to the reliability and precision of the controller.
