SKY66105-11 is a low-cost, integrated RF front end solution designed for WLAN applications. It consists of a low noise amplifier (LNA) combined with a power amplifier (PA). The advantage of such an integrated solution is that it eliminates the costs associated with separate components and eliminates the need to align the components in order to achieve an optimal performance.
The device operates in the 2.4 GHz ISM band, and is suitable for WLAN IEEE 802.11b / g / n applications. It features low noise figure, high linearity and high efficiency, and includes an on-chip bypassable power detector circuit for modeling and monitoring the gain of the device.
The device is optimized for low current consumption and integrates the WLAN PA into the same 3mm x 3mm RFPAD package as the accompanying LNA. This helps reduce costs by enabling compact system designs. The device is manufactured in a 65-nm CMOS technology and operates with a single NMOS device at the input. It has a maximum output power of +22.5 dBm, and a gain of 21.5 dB.
The device offers two setting options: High Gain Mode (HGM) and Low Power Mode (LPM). In HGM, the PA is turned on and the gain is 20.5 dB; in LPM, the PA is turned off and the gain is 19 dB. The device features an on-chip temperature sensor, which can be used to adjust the gain in order to maintain a constant output power.
SKY66105-11 provides a total integrated solution that eliminates the need for discrete components and enables wireless systems with reduced Bill of Materials and board space. The device is designed to be used with an external matching network, which provides optimal performance. The device also includes an on-chip power detector that can be used to monitor and adjust the gain. It is an ideal solution for WLAN applications where compactness and low power are required.
