SL28SRC01BZI Application Field and Working PrincipleThe SL28SRC01BZI is an application-specific single-chip clock generator which provides programmable output frequencies from a range of selectable quartz crystals or differential and single-ended inputs. It incorporates an on-chip PLL, VCO, and divider, with an array of output options from 4 frequency buses.The SL28SRC01BZI is designed for low-power and low-jitter applications, making it ideal for multi-port switches and other communication systems requiring a high-speed, reliable and accurate clock signal.Application FieldThe SL28SRC01BZI is an advanced clock generator for use in low-noise and low-power applications. It is a highly reliable and accurate, single-chip clock solution that can be tailored to meet a wide range of system requirements.The device is ideal for use in a variety of networking applications, including but not limited to: radio base stations, cellular base stations, and WLAN access points, industrial equipment, mobile video systems, medical communication systems, WiMax femtosites, terrestrial digital television, and high-speed storage and storage area networks.The SL28SRC01BZI can also be used for time synchronization in Ethernet-based industrial networks such as Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP, and ProfiNet.Working PrincipleThe SL28SRC01BZI is a single-chip clock generator comprised of a VCO, PLL, and divider. The device can generate a clock frequency of up to 180 MHz, with programmable output frequencies from a range of selectable quartz crystals or differential and single-ended inputs.The device incorporates an array of output options, including a master clock output (MCLK), two fractional clock outputs (FCLKs), a spread-spectrum clock output (SCLK), a sync output (SYNC) and an option to bypass the PLL for use as a clock generator with low-noise and low-power applications.The SL28SRC01BZI uses an advanced analog design to achieve high-performance clock generation with minimal power consumption and excellent noise immunity. The device features a phase-lock loop (PLL) that locks onto an input frequency and multiplies the frequency for use as a stable, low-jitter output clock. The PLL uses a VCO to generate a stable clock frequency with minimal noise and jitter. The VCO is configurable with an external crystal or an external reference clock to allow configuration of the desired output frequencies. The PLL also includes an output divider to divide the output frequency to generate a variety of output clocks.Additionally, the SL28SRC01BZI includes an adjustable spread-spectrum feature, which is used to reduce the peak-to-peak jitter in clock signals. The spread-spectrum feature is configurable to provide up to ± 0.5% spread-spectrum modulation.The output clocks are synchronized with a configurable sync pulse, which is used to ensure that all the outputs respond in synchrony with the reference clock. The device also supports a reset or power-on reset feature to reset the clock configuration to its default state.ConclusionThe SL28SRC01BZI is a highly reliable, low-noise and low-power clock generator solution for use in a variety of networking applications.
