The SL28SRC01BZIT from Supertex Inc. is a frequency synthesizer/clock generator integrated circuit (IC) with a fast-locking phased-locked loop (PLL). It is ideally used for synchronizing digital systems to clock frequencies of 10 - 30 MHz.The SL28SRC01BZIT performs two essential functions in a clock generator – synthesizing a wide frequency range and locking the PLL to an externally provided reference clock. The on-chip PLL possesses sixteen frequency dividers and two output dividers that can support various clock frequencies while maintaining minimal jitter. The synthesizer frequency range is configurable through external components, enabling the user to customize the clock generator to specific application requirements.The device supports a wide range of input reference clock frequencies, from 10 MHz to 30 MHz. It is optimized to work with SRC clocks, but the device can also support CMOS type clock sources. The SL28SRC01BZIT derives its output frequency from the reference clock frequency by a multiplication factor of up to 32x.The device is designed to operate from a single supply voltage from 2.7V to 5.5V. The power consumption ranges from 3.5mW in shutdown mode to 2mW in normal operation. The device contains an on-chip oscillator for startup and lockup, allowing for better system noise immunity and faster system start-up times. The SL28SRC01BZIT features a fast lock time, settling to bandwidth in less than 5 μs. It also has an integrated ring oscillator PLL that is designed to optimize jitter performance while maintaining low power consumption. The ring oscillator PLL features two dual-modulus prescalers that can be optimized to provide desired frequennecy dividers for the output clocks.The SL28SRC01BZIT also offers several advanced features such as spread spectrum clocking for improved electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and ‘Gated Lock’ for improved power-up stability. Spread spectrum clocking is a feature used for reducing the peak power spectral density of an electronic device by shaping the broadband output signal into a lower peak-to-average power ratio. Gated Lock is used to stabilize the PLL during power-up transients.Overall, the SL28SRC01BZIT is a complete, ultra-low power, fast-locking frequency synthesizer/clock generator IC. It is designed to enable low noise, low jitter clocking solutions with a frequency range between 10MHz to 30MHz, settable through external components.
