SLD13-018 TVS – Diodes Application Field and Working Principle

SLD13-018 TVS-Diodes are used for lightning surge and over-voltage protection in communication and high-speed data applications. Working Principle

SLD13-018 is a double diode device with two TVS diodes connected in anti-parallel and reversed direction. It effectively works by positioning two TVS diodes against each other to achieve high level of surge protection and reduce electromagnetic interference (EMI). When a transient voltage is applied to the diode, both TVS diodes are activated in sequence, which allows them to function in the same way as a single diode. The diodes are reverse-biased and have a large reverse-breakdown voltage rating, which is different than the clamping voltage rating of the TVS diode. The reverse-breakdown voltage determines the amount of voltage the diode can withstand before it starts to be affected by the transient voltage. The TVS diode also has a low drain capacitance, which allows it to recover quickly from a transient voltage while maintaining the same level of protection.When a transient voltage is applied to the SLD13-018 TVS-Diode, the two diodes are activated in sequence. The first diode will conduct the current and the second diode will act as a clamp, preventing the voltage from exceeding the maximum level. This type of device is also beneficial in terms of the application’s safety, as the design of the device ensures that the current will not be distributed to more than two terminals of the device.
