Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors (AECs) are vessels that store electrical energy. They are made of two flat metal plates – an anode and a cathode – with one side being made of a porous metal core that is saturated with an electrolyte liquid, usually potassium hydroxide or sodium hydroxide. Inside the vessel is a dielectric material that helps to increase the capacitance of the capacitor and acts as a barrier between the two metal surfaces. The capacitance of an AEC varies depending on its type, size and construction, and is usually measured in Farads (F).

SLPX821M400H9P3 is a radial leaded Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitor. It is a non-polarized aluminum electrolytic capacitor of type SMF with a molded solid plastic case, a screw terminal. When the voltage is removed, the charge stored in the plates dissipates and capacitors return to a neutral state. This energy and charge stored in the capacitor can then be used to power a variety of electrical devices, including LED lighting control systems, ac and dc inverters, motor control systems and LCD display panels.
