The SM6T100CA-M3/52, referred to as the SM6T series, is a unidirectional transil TVS diode. It is a high-performance transient voltage suppression (TVS) diode designed to prevent permanent damage to critical components and exposed circuitry due to voltage transients. The SM6T series can withstand and dissipate transients up to 8.2A and provide superior ESD protection with an excellent clamping capability.
This product is housed in the SOT143-4 package, making it optimal for surface-mount applications. The SM6T series also features a capacitance of 28pF, a breakdown voltage of 57.2V, and a junction capacitance of 60pF. The SM6T100CA-M3/52 series is widely used for Electro Static Discharge (ESD) protection in high-speed digital and switching circuits. The working principle of the SM6T100CA-M3/52 is based on a two-stage avalanche breakdown mechanism that provides a fast, robust protection solution. This TVS diode consists of an N-type anode, an N-type cathode, and a P-type epitaxial layer and an avalanche layer. The P-type epitaxial layer is used to achieve fast response to high-speed transients, while the avalanche layer allows for maximum clamping with low power consumption. During operation, when the voltage across the anode and cathode exceeds the breakdown voltage of the P-type epitaxial layer, avalanche breakdown occurs and the protection element is activated. This generates a low impedance path that efficiently clamps high-speed transients up to 8.2A.
