TVS – diode is a type of semiconductor based device used for lightning protection and surges voltage protection. Working Principle

Surge voltage higher than the internal reference voltage will flow through the TVS diode and be discharged into the ground.

In order to suppress a surge voltage, the SMA6J12A-TR also has a special protection mechanism to serve as a temporary hold during the surge. It has a high-speed breakdown protective layer on both sides to limit the surge voltage to the specified breakdown voltage.
