A SMBG5346CTR13 (or BZT52C15V-13) is a diode-zener type, single component. It is primarily used as a voltage regulator in voltage-critical applications or to protect against short circuits and abnormal voltage spikes.
SMBG5346C/TR13 is a glass-passivated dual common-cathode Zener diodes with very low dynamic impedance. It is designed specifically for use in voltage regulation and clamping applications, and provides improved stability and increased waveform fidelity over traditional Zener diodes and Zener chips.
The SMBG5346C/TR13 features a 5346C reverse voltage of 13V tolerance of +-5%. It has a power dissipation of 150mW, a working impedance of 0.27Ω and a nominal current of 400mA. The maximum operating temperature is 150°C, the thermal impedance of 4.3K/W, and a clamping voltage of 20V. It also features a low reverse leakage rate of 5uA at 1mA.

It is also used for voltage-clamping applications, as it has excellent avalanche energy capability and low clamping voltage. The working principle of SMBG5346C/TR13 lies in its basic structure. The dual common-cathode Zener diodes consist of two separately connected diodes joined at their anode. When forward biased, the diodes act as normal rectifying diodes; when reverse biased, the diodes act as Zener diodes, limiting the voltage applied to their cathodes. The SMBG5346C/TR13 is used in a variety of applications, such as voltage regulation, voltage clamping, reverse current protection, temperature-sensitive applications, and low impedance applications. In voltage regulation, SMBG5346C/TR13 is used to regulate the output voltage of DC-DC converters and AC-DC power supply applications, which require high line regulation and low noise operation. It is also used in voltage-sensitive circuitry, such as bipolar and CMOS integrated circuits, to protect these circuits from short circuits and abnormal voltage spikes.
SMBG5346C/TR13 is also used in voltage-clamping applications, as it features excellent avalanche energy capability and low clamping voltage.
