SMM4F13A-TR is a kind of unidirectional TVS diode, or Transient Voltage Suppressor (TVS) diode, which is widely used today as a better and faster protection device. It provides a high level of robust protection for many types of data and power lines against the threat of electrostatic discharge (ESD) and other transient voltage events including lightning.The SMM4F13A-TR can protect end-products such as computers, line cards, optical modules and communications equipment from faulty Over-Voltage (OV) and Under-Voltage (UV) events. Its small-size, low-leakage (ca. 10 µA with a 5.5V reverse voltage) and excellent surge capability make it suitable for many industrial applications.A typical working principle of SMM4F13A-TR requires a source voltage across the device terminations. It operates by absorbing and sacrificing the excessive surge for its own destruction. When it is connected in series with a device or circuit, it is designed to become the path of least resistance for the surge energy, thus protecting the connected device from getting damaged.
