Construction

Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are composed of four main parts: anode, separator, cathode, and electrolyte. The SN220M063ST capacitor has a core with rolled aluminium foil as the anode, highly porous glass cloth separator impregnated with electrolyte, a layer of dielectric oxide film as the cathode, and an electrolytic solution. The core is sealed in a can with a soldered lead cap or a welded lead frame.

Application Field and Working Principle

The SN220M063ST capacitor is an AC capacitance device. It is widely used in radios, televisions, computers, household appliances, and other electronic devices as a storage device for AC and DC. When subjected to an alternating voltage, the electrical charge on the anode oscillates along with the voltage, and then pass through the capacitor at a slow rate. The capacitor’s dielectric oxide film acts as an insulation barrier between the anode and the cathode, causing electrons to gradually accumulate on the cathode and build up an electric potential which oppose the applied voltage. The capacitor can store this charge when the voltage is removed.
