The SN75107AD is a driver, receiver and transceiver in one, allowing the user to send and receive signals on the same device. It is designed to be used in circuits where the impedance loading of signals over long distances is required, such as in RS-232 or other serial communication applications, telecommunications circuits and other distance-related applications. The SN75107AD is a single-chip, dual port, differential line driver/receiver with an ESD protection device.

The SN75107AD device contains an IrDA-compliant, dual-drive differential line driver and receiver, a double-pole double-throw (DPDT) switch, and ESD protection circuit. The separate input, output, and enable pins make the SN75107AD a low-cost, versatile solution for many serial communication applications. The IrDA-compliant, high-impedance differential line driver/receiver supports data transmission up to 10 Mbps.

The dual-driver differential line driver/receiver structure and ESD protection circuit enable the SN75107AD to drive and receive signals to and from wireless and long-distance telecommunication and other circuits. The device is designed to meet the EIA/TIA standards for RS-232 and other applications, such as full-duplex T3 and T4, R1, and E1. The SN75107AD is also pin- and function-compatible with the SN75175 and is available in 9-pin and 28-pin versions.

The SN75107AD differential line driver/receiver uses two separate drivers, one for each line, to transmit and receive signals. When sending data, both drivers are enabled simultaneously. When receiving data, one driver is enabled to receive data (RX1), while the other driver is turned off to minimize power consumption. This two-driver configuration also provides twice the normal drive capability, enabling long lines to be driven without affecting the received signals.

The SN75107AD also has a DPDT switch to control the direction of data flow. The switch is powered by a low-current internal regulator, which is included in the device to conserve power. The switch can be operated in two states: a receive state to enable data reception, and a transmit state to enable data transmission. The switch also offers two modes of switching operation: one mode operates with a logic low input, while the other mode operates with a logic high input.

The SN75107AD ESD protection circuit is designed to protect the device from electrostatic discharge (ESD) and other high-voltage spikes. The circuit incorporates an on-chip, low-current reverse-parallel ESD protection transistor, which is intended to reduce the amount of harmful ESD voltage applied to the IC.
