The SN75117P is an interface - drivers, receivers, transceivers – device developed by Texas Instruments. It is a low-power, uni-directional line driver designed for industrial applications requiring improved lead length, noise immunity and balanced line terminations. The SN75117P is designed to drive 50Ω to ground load and provide 400mV peak-to-peak line amplitude when used with a 3.3V supply voltage.

The SN75117P is designed for applications such as short-term communication networks, telecommunication lines, data acquisition systems, digital RS-232 and other control systems. It can also be used to drive multiple digital systems which need uniform input and limited external components.

The SN75117P is a differential line driver offering a high input impedance of 150kΩ at the inputs. The device utilizes a high current clamp to avoid overshooting or undershooting of the inputs. The SN75117P also features full-wavehystersis on the outputs which allows the device to switch reliably even in noisy environments. The device have also low propagation delay time of 2.5ns at common supplies making it ideal for high speed communication applications.

The SN75117P is able to provide good input-to-output isolation over a frequency range from below 5Hz to 1MHz. The device is also able to operate from a wide range of supply voltage from 3.3V to 9V making it a great choice for use in multiple voltage environment.

In terms of operation, the SN75117P works in two distinct modes; On mode and Off mode. The On Mode enables the SN75117P to drive the outputs linearly and the frequency response is determined by the characteristics of the load and stray capacitance. Meanwhile, when the SN75117P is in the Off Mode, no output power is supplied. In this mode, the SN75117P acts as an open circuit any input signals are rejected.

The SN75117P is also designed for low power consumption. It uses only 25μA of supply current and has a 500mA short-circuit protection. It also has a thermal overload protection to protect the device from damage due to excessive temperature.
