SN75154N is an integrated circuit (IC), belonging to the interface drivers, receivers, transceivers category. It contains two low-power, low-threshold 5V Schottky T-network quad-line receivers or transceivers that convert between electrical signals and a two-wire bus, most commonly used on personal computers. Its main applications are in modem standard EIA/TIA-561 and provides an interface between asynchronous serial devices and the binary data-bus.
The SN75154N is an 8-pin IC with four input pins and four output pins. It accepts digital input signals in the range of 2.0V to 5.25V or two\'s complement and is suitable for TTL and CMOS signal levels. It has a high speed differential line receiver that is used to convert a signal pair (single ended signals) on the transmission line into a TTL compatible signal. The output type of the SN75154N is open collector and this output can be used to control other devices, such as a motor, amplifier, or any other device that can be operated in a digital logic environment.
The SN75154N uses TTL logic to convert signals from the transmission line to the logic levels required by the application. For example, it can be used to convert the TTL or CMOS signal level of one device to the transmission level of another. It uses the magnitude of the voltage difference between its two input signals to determine a logic high (1) or low (0) state. When one of the two input signals is at least 0.8V above the other, the logic level is considered to be high and vice versa. The logic level is then reversed at the output pins to produce the required TTL or CMOS logic level.
The SN75154N works differently from a classical TTL logic gate. The SN75154N uses a pair of 50 ohm resistor-capacitor (RC) networks in the differential pair stage, to create the desired noise immunity and EMI reduction. The two input signals are first applied to the two RC networks, where the two signals are then lumped together and provided to the input of the NAND gate of the SN75154N. This NAND gate has two outputs, one output (the output of the NAND gate) is 1 when either or both of the inputs are high, and 0 when both the inputs are low. The second output of the NAND gate is connected to an open collector transistor that is used to provide the required logic levels of TTL or CMOS. This transistor is activated by the second output when one of the two input signals is above the other by at least 0.8V, and is turned off when both inputs are equal or below.
The SN75154N is ideal for applications that require fast response time and low power consumption. Typical applications for this IC include motor control, modem control, digital data communications and a variety of other logical operations.
