SN75189ADE4 is a low-power and high-speed AC-coupled transceiver integrated circuit. It is mostly used in digital electronic devices with bi-directional data transceiver, such as digital cameras, rail transponders, mobile phones, and hard disks. This IC also has two separate power supply pins, one for the logic component, and the other for the analog component. The logic power supply can be as low as 3V, while the analog power supply can be as low as 4.5V.The SN75189ADE4 transceiver is particularly suitable for data transmission and reception over long distances and with high speed, since the slew rate of the transmit and receive paths are extremely fast, with switch times of 10ns and 8V/us. Its low-power consumption has enabled applications in many mobile device transceivers, as well as long-distance communication between datacenter computers.The SN75189ADE4 also uses AC-coupled input and output channels, which eliminates the need for extra coupling capacitors. The SN75189ADE4 transceiver consists of an input and output section, which are connected through a high-speed bi-directional amplifier stage. The input section contains a differential transimpedance amplifier stage and a current source, while the output section consists of two voltage comparators, each connected to two logic channels, one for each analog signal.Data is sent and received through the input and output sections, respectively. The differential transimpedance amplifier stage allows for AC-coupled inputs and allows for direct conversion of transmitted digital signals. This eliminates the need for additional voltage level conversion circuits.The current source, in this case, serves as a low-impedance source of reference current and is used in conjunction with the differential transimpedance amplifier to obtain a balanced current drive. When inputting data, the transimpedance amplifier creates a differential output current that is proportional to the differential input voltage.The output section, on the other hand, is comprised of two voltage comparators, each connected to its own logic channel, one for each analog signal. Each comparator has two inputs, a threshold voltage and ground, which it compares against the input voltage levels for the logic channels. When the voltage level of one of the logic channels exceeds the threshold voltage, the comparator switches to the “high” state.
