Working Principle

The SN75C188DBR utilizes the UART protocol to implement a bidirectional, full duplex data communications system. When enabled, the parity generation will calculate a parity bit based on the transmitted or received data byte and append it to the byte before it is sent over the bus. When using even parity, the parity bit will be one if the number of ‘1’s in the transmitted/received byte is an even number, and it will be zero if it is an odd number. This ensures that errors in transmission can be detected, as the parity bit won’t match the transmitted/received byte. The SN75C188DBR is also equipped with a variety of features to improve the reliability of data transfer. It features on-chip power monitoring, adaptive biasing, and current-saving Low-power modes.
