The SP6651EB is a single-stage, offline, AC/DC Flyback controller with a single switch configuration. The SP6651EB is a high efficiency, low-cost, high-frequency, high-voltage flyback controller capable of driving a current up to 1.2A. It integrates a PWM controller, a switch controller, an over-voltage protection, and a thermal limit protection. With these features, it meets the needs of low cost, low power, and highly reliable applications.
The SP6651EB was designed with the aim of providing the best performance with the lowest cost. This has been achieved through the use of advanced components such as a high-efficiency, low-loss, integrated flyback controller, a power MOSFET, high-speed energy regeneration logic, and a high-speed buck regulator. As a result, the SP6651EB has the lowest total harmonic distortion (THD) of any other controller of its kind.
The SP6651EB is ideal for use in power supplies ranging from 15W to 30W output power. Typical applications include standby and primary power supplies, laptop and portable chargers, TDK, AC/DC adapter and LED drivers. Its simple, yet powerful design makes it an extremely flexible and versatile solution for many applications.
The SP6651EB’s working principle is quite simple. The primary side FET switch is first turned on when the primary switch detects a full-wave rectified voltage on its input. When the PWM controller detects the high-voltage level, it begins to generate a PWM signal which drives the secondary side FET switch, which then triggers the start of the transfer of energy from the active rectification of the primary side FET switch to the secondary side FET switch.
When the secondary side FET switch is activated, the current on the primary winding of the flyback transformer is reversed and is then rectified by the diode of the primary winding. The energy derived from this rectified current is then transferred to the secondary winding of the transformer, and is then regulated by the output voltage sensing circuit. The regulated output can be adjusted by changing the secondary sense resistor value.
The SP6651EB operates with a 4-25VAC input and thus does not require a separate bias winding for the controller. This simplifies the circuit design, and makes it possible to implement a basic flyback converter in a small form factor. This reduces costs and improves performance by decreasing parasitic elements.
Overall, the SP6651EB provides a cost-effective solution for a number of applications that require robust performance and low total harmonic distortion.
