The SP6656ER3-L/TR is a DC/DC Buck regulator ideal for mobile and telecommunication applications. This device can deliver an output voltage range of 0.9 to 5.5V. It supports up to a 1.5A output, and operation frequencies up to 2.5MHz. The SP6656ER3-L/TR supports constant voltage, constant current, and adjustable loop compensation to achieve high efficiency operation. It is designed to handle 48V input from applications such as Li-ion/Li-polymer rechargeable batteries, as well as 5V or 12V voltage sources.
The SP6656ER3-L/TR features an integrated heat dissipation system to ensure linear regulation for high loads, small form factor and low output noise. This controller also has a low power standby mode with low quiescent current and fast transient response. Additionally, this part is designed to provide good EMI performance, power sharing capability, as well as active current limitation.

The SP6656ER3-L/TR DC/DC Buck Regulator has a low quiescent current under light load (less than 0.2mA) and an active-mode quiescent current of 140µA. It has fast transient response time to enable fast application start-up. The device also includes valley-switching architecture to enable a better thermal economy and improved efficiency. As it is based on synchronous rectification, it operates at high switching frequency to realize a fast transient response, low losses, and low noise.
The SP6656ER3-L/TR uses Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) technology to provide the efficient and stable power supply required by modern systems. By varying the pulse width, it adjusts the amount of power supplied to the load. This eliminates the need for an external PWM circuit, and enables higher efficiency. As the output voltage is regulated by the PWM, the output ripple is minimized.
The SP6656ER3-L/TR DC/DC Buck Regulator also provides a sensing power conversion loop to ensure accurate output voltage. This closed loop feedback circuit compares the output voltage with a reference voltage and adjusts its duty cycle accordingly, to maintain the desired output voltage. Such a topology is especially beneficial for systems with heavy load transients.
