A Schottky diode (or Schottky barrier diode) is a semiconductor device with all the properties of an ideal diode but, because of its special construction, having very low voltage drop and very fast switching. A Schottky diode is also known as a hot-carrier diode. It is basically a diode with a series connection of a metal contact, typically tungsten, and a semiconductor. These diodes are sometimes referred to as the SBD or Schottky Barrier Diode.
The high-performance electronic semiconductor components feature very low forward voltage that is about 0.15V to 0.4V for a typical 10A rectifier diode. Due to the very low voltage field across the junction, the recovery time after the application of shock or impulse drops to approximately 0.7 nS. As a result, the SS34L MHG is an attractive alternative to the conventional reverse-biased junction diodes.
