The ST485CN series is an interface type that combines a driver and receiver into a single integrated circuit (IC). A major feature of the ST485CN is its low voltage needs: the devices are capable of operating with a +2.5V to +5.5V power supply. The ST485CN also works in the following way: it converts the asynchronous serial data from the local device into NRZ format, which can be more easily communicated across the communication bus. The ST485CN also provides a receive input filter, which filters out unwanted noise from the received signal. Finally, the NRZ formatted data is converted back into asynchronous serial format and transmitted to the local device.
