The STLC2690WTR, a fully integrated transceiver IC, utilizes the 2.4GHz band, enabling designs to support high data rates that are essential for modern Wi-Fi applications, while also providing low-power consumption and a comprehensive set of features.
The STLC2690WTR operates according to a full-duplex networking architecture, meaning that it can both transmit and receive data simultaneously. When transmitting, the chip first starts by encoding the transmit data into a IEEE 802.11 compliant transmission stream. The STLC2690WTR then modulates the signal according to either Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing (OFDM) or Complementary-Code-Keying (CCK) and amplifies this signal further via a power amplifier. During reception, the chip initiates the demodulation process by connecting to an antenna and decoding a received signal in either OFDM or CCK. The signal is then converted back into a format that the receiving device can interpret.
The STLC2690WTR is ideal for applications such as wireless local area networks (WLAN) and Bluetooth®, providing 11 Mbps data rate over a 7 meter range. The device consumes very low power, allowing for extended battery life in portable products. Additionally, the chip integrates a range of features, such as pulse shaping and 802.11b data rate scaling, directly onto the chip.
In terms of design, the STLC2690WTR has a flexible architecture that requires few external components. A single-ended high−frequency (50MHz) crystal oscillator is used to generate the internal clock required for the chip to function, while external filters and RF PIN diodes are only required in the transmit path. To take full advantage of the STLC2690WTR’s power efficiency, the transmit power can be limited to one of the several preprogrammed settings.
