STNS01PUR is a high-performance monolithic battery charger for Li-Ion/Li-Ion polymer and NiMH batteries, especially suited for space-constrained applications. The device is targeted for portable consumer electronics applications, small mobile devices, industrial equipment, wearable devices and other applications that require a compact power source.

The STNS01PUR features a low input voltage of 4.2V, and can charge single-cell Li-Ion/Li-Ion polymer and NiMH batteries up to 1A with a programmable charge current up to 2A. It can be adjusted to battery pack voltage ranging from 8.4V to 14.4V, enabling the use of multiple battery cell configurations. The device also includes two integrated FETs, one low side and one high side, that can be used to supply power to a load or charge multiple battery cells in parallel configuration.

The STNS01PUR also incorporates multiple safety features such as thermal protection, charge overvoltage protection, cell overtemperature protection, and bad cell detection that protect the battery against overcharging and over-temperature. The device has an internal timeout setting that allows it to shut down if the charging time is exceeded, minimizing the risk of overcharging.

The STNS01PUR utilizes multiple control mechanisms to regulate the charging process. It uses a timed-based current limitation mechanism that enables a constant charging current even under varying power supply conditions, and can be switched into pulse-based current regulation for improved battery cell efficiency. It also uses a voltage-based current regulation to ensure the battery is charged in an optimized manner, as well as cell balancing that allows balanced charging of multiple batteries connected in series.

The STNS01PUR has several operating modes that enable it to recognize different battery types such as Li-Ion/Li-Polymer and NiMH, so a single charger can be used for multiple applications. The device includes a host communication interface (I2C) that allows the user to access and control the charger, as well as an auxiliary interface that can be used to connect external monitoring and control devices.

The STNS01PUR is designed with a self-contained charge controller for lithium-ion and/or nickel-metal hydride batteries, providing significant flexibility in power management. Its high-efficiency PMIC, low input voltage, and adaptive charging current control mechanisms make it an ideal choice for space-constrained applications.
