The SY88922VKC-TR is a comprehensive power management integrated circuit (PMIC) tailored to powering and driving various types of lasers. It is a multi-faceted solution that offers voltage and current source and sink, over-voltage protection, and current monitoring to accommodate delicate laser applications with higher precision and reliability. The SY88922VKC-TR helps with laser applications including laser machining, rangefinding, barcode readers and medical applications.
The SY88922VKC-TR features three key operating modes intended for controlling laser current, laser switching, and fault e-cancellation. The current mode works by simply monitoring the current and providing precise drive control while the voltage mode is used to accurately monitor the voltage and generate the needed drive signal. The switching mode is used to enable optical isolation of the input signal and allows precise on/off control with fast switching speeds up to 7.5MHz. The fault e-cancellation feature, in combination with the device’s current monitoring and feedback control, helps to protect the system from any faults including over-current, over-voltage, and thermal overload.
The SY88922VKC-TR uses a range of integrated protection features to protect the circuit from damage due to system errors. The over-voltage protection (OVP) threshold is adjustable from 2 – 18V and allows protection from transient spikes and slow rise over-voltage conditions. The over-current protection (OCP) also features adjustable thresholds, up to 11A, which protects the laser power sources and associated circuitry. The SY88922VKC-TR has been tested to with 7.5MHz switching frequency, which enables operation of high speed laser diodes. The frequency hopping scheme works by allowing switching between multiple frequencies with the same driving voltage.
The SY88922VKC-TR works by supplying current to the laser diodes, which produces the management of Current Source and Sink Functions. The laser current is generated through a conventional scan topology, with an active switch and a positive feedback network driving a second switch. This double switch allows the SY88922VKC-TR to drive the laser diode current in either polarity. The SY88922VKC-TR also features a Secondary Laser Source (SLS) circuit, which automatically turns on a second laser if the primary laser does not provide a sufficient current to the system.
The SY88922VKC-TR also features numerous safety features, such as temperature protection, laser fault reset, and laser off delay. The temperature protection works by reducing the current on hot devices, ensuring that the laser diode remains within its safe operating temperature range. The laser fault reset allows the device to shut off the laser circuit if a fault is detected and an adjustable time delay allows the circuit to reset before powering up the laser. The laser off delay feature helps to prevent unwanted current leakage by providing a slight delay in turning the laser off.
The SY88922VKC-TR offers a unique power management solution for laser applications, minimizing system cost and increasing system reliability. The device offers precise current and voltage monitoring, over-voltage and over-current protection, and temperature protection to ensure accuracy, safety and performance in delicate laser applications.
