SY88932LMI-TR is a single-chip, high-efficiency laser driver PMIC (Power Management IC) designed to drive laser diodes with a wavelength up to 1460nm. It is an optoelectronic integrated circuit (OEIC) developed by Intersil that enables a high power efficiency for optical power output. The SY88932LMI-TR is also capable of highly efficient pulse width modulation (PWM) control, making it one of the most powerful and efficient laser drivers available in the market.

The SY88932LMI-TR has been designed specifically for applications which require high power output with excellent power efficiency and fast response times to changing conditions. This makes the device well-suited for applications such as laser diode arrays, telecom, automotive, defense and industrial laser applications. It is also capable of delivering up to 95 percent power efficiency with a switching frequency of up to 6.8MHz.

The device is composed of two main sections: the power stage and the driver stage. The power stage is responsible for converting the incoming power into the required optical power output while the driver stage is responsible for controlling the current through the laser diode. To further enhance power efficiency, the power stage is powered by a transformer-isolated synchronous buck regulator which provides a steady, low cell voltage. The driver stage is composed of a high-efficiency low side component, which is capable of delivering up to 95 percent efficiency, and a PWM control unit.

The PWM control unit of the SY88932LMI-TR is composed of an adjustable duty cycle generator, an adjustable short time over-current limiter and an adjustable over-voltage protection circuit. The adjustable duty cycle generator works by generating a pulse width modulated current, which is then applied to the laser diode. The adjustable short-time over-current limiter prevents excessive current through the laser diode by automatically sensing and limiting the current when it is outside of preset limits. The adjustable over-voltage protection circuit, on the other hand, protects the laser diode from excessive voltage, by automatically sensing and limiting the voltage when it exceeds a preset level.

The SY88932LMI-TR also has two other adjustable features to further improve its performance. The first is a variable ramp rate feature, which is used to set the ramp-down speed of the laser current. This ensures that the laser can be accurately shut down rapidly when needed. The second adjustable feature is an adjustable rise and fall time feature, which adjusts the speed of the PWM pulses and ensures that the laser can be switched rapidly with minimal power loss.
