PMIC - Laser Drivers
The SY88932LMG-TR is a laser driver IC, part of the Pulse mode driver IC series,a range of Integrated Circuit (IC) products manufactured by Fgneid Electrical Co Ltd.The products in this series have been developed to address the requirements of high powerlaser diode applications, such as optical networking components, laser display scansand laser engraving techniques.
Application Field
The SY88932LMG-TR is a low-power pulse mode driver which can be used in powermanagement applications for laser applications, such as optical communicationscanners. This laser driver is designed to interface with the high power laserdiode and its controlling circuit within a very small form factor.
The SY88932LMG-TR also provides wide load adaptation and high speed modulationcapabilities. The driver features on-die temperature compensation, enabling accuratepower control over the operating temperature range. Additionally, the driverfeatures an adjustable drive current control, as well as an adjustablethermal/exposure compensation to mitigate temperature-dependent effects.

Working Principle
The SY88932LMG-TR is based on a Pulse Mode Power Supply (PMPS) in combinationwith an adjustable current source. The PMPS is a closed-loop control system thatprovides a voltage and current source to the load (in this case, the laser diode).The laser driver uses a high-speed P-type metal oxide semiconductor (PMOS)switch to drive the load, while the current source senses the load current andadjusts the operating point of the PMOS switch to maintain the desired load current.The current source is adjustable, allowing the user to control the output powerover a wide range of output powers and operating temperatures. This allows theuser to tailor the output power to the desired level with minimal loss of efficiency.
In addition to the adjustable current source, the SY88932LMG-TR also featurestemperature compensation and adjustable thermal/exposure compensation. Thetemperature compensation ensures that the driver maintains consistent output powerover a wide range of operating temperatures, while the adjustable thermal/exposurecompensation allows the user to fine-tune the output power to compensate fortemperature-dependent effects.
The SY88932LMG-TR also features a programmable overcurrent protection circuitand an adjustable overvoltage protection circuit. The overcurrent protectionensures that the output current is kept within safe limits, while the overvoltageprotection ensures that the output voltage is kept within safe limits. Thisprotection is necessary to protect both the laser diode and the driver itselffrom damage due to excessive current or voltage.
