Working Principle

The SY88932LMG is intended for pulse width modulated (PWM) controlling of laser diodes, in which the energy stored in the laser diode\'s forward DC current is transferred on and off between ON - PWM and OFF - PWM states. For this purpose, the device implements the PWM function based on the external timer and voltage references. The device features two types of PWM current control, peak current mode and average current mode. Peak current mode enables laser diode pulse current to be set at a certain level, regardless of pulse frequency. Average current mode (ACM) limits the average laser diode current, irrespective of the peak current at different pulse frequencies.The device also includes several protection functions, such as over-temperature protection, over-current protection and under-voltage lock out, that ensure proper laser diode operation and a dependable long-term life.The SY88932LMG is fabricated in a low-power, advanced BiCMOS process, based on 0.18 um technology. The device integrates the output power and input buffer sections into a single 8-pin TDFN package. The device has a wide input voltage range from 6 V to 18 V, and is capable of supporting pulsed DC current down to 10 A.
