Fiber Optic Connectors - AdaptersThe T1047 is a fiber optic connector adapter is used to allow connection between two different types of connectors that are otherwise incompatible. It can be used as a joiner, means of providing optical-to-electrical conversions, cables, amplifiers, attenuators, and other fiber-optic network components. It involves the connection of two optical fibers in an optical fiber connector at each end of the cable. It allows a physical and mechanical connection between the two fibers and allows for they create a flexible joint.The T1047 contains three parts: The coupling mechanism, the ferrule assembly, and the adapter body. The coupling mechanism or nut allows the two fiber ends to be aligned while the ferrule holds the fiber in place. The ferrule has an external thread which matches the internal thread of the coupling nut on the adapter. Inert grease is applied between the male and female threads of the coupling nut to ensure a tight fit. The adapter body is made from either metal or plastic and provides the housing for the ferrule assembly and the coupling nut.The working principle of the T1047 adapter lies in its ability to precisely align two single mode or multimode fibers precisely using the ferrule and the coupling nut. The fixed optical fiber is held in place by the ferrule assembly while the coupling nut connects that fiber and aligns it with the male and the female connector of the adapter. While the nuts are twisted to align the two fibers, the cladding-to-cladding alignment ensures the best performance in terms of optical power.The T1047 adapter can be used in many applications. In communication systems it is used to connect two different wavelength single mode fibers resulting in improved performance.
