The T1042RDB-PA is a powerful and excellent multiprocessor evaluation board for embedded applications. It features a Power Architecture™ T1042 processor with an integrated rich communications port, along with an ARM® Cortex-A9 processor. This board can be used for the development of real-time embedded applications in several industries, such as automotive, robotics, industrial automation, medical systems, telecoms and cloud computing. Additionally, the T1042RDB-PA provides the necessary features, peripherals and I/O to enable the development in many applications, for example, in camera surveillance systems, industrial gateways, medical systems, and digital home appliances.
The T1042RDB-PA board has three components: the T1042 Power Architecture media processor, the Cortex-A9, and the Power Architecture network processor. The three components working together enable the board to scale to the requirements of multiple application areas. The T1042 Power Architecture media processor provides the media processing which, along with the combination of a Cortex-A9 processor, enables it to serve as the controller for embedded multimedia and video-centric applications. The Power Architecture network processor allows communication between the other components in the board, using an advanced network protocol.
In terms of communication capabilities, the T1042RDB-PA board features two Gigabit Ethernet ports supporting RJ-45Cat6 connectors and two USB 3.0 connectors, along with EtherCAT and CAN protocol communication buses. This makes it ideal for communications demanding systems, as it can easily provide high-level, multi-channel communications with fast serial communication speeds. In addition, the T1042RDB-PA has four serial ports on-board with RS-232 or RS-485/422 protocols, as well as two serial ports on the expansion bay that support RS-232 or TTL.
The T1042RDB-PA also includes memory structures for both the Power Architecture processor and the Cortex-A9 processor, including 1 GB of DDR3 SDRAM for the Power Architecture processor, and 512 MB of DDR3 SDRAM for the Cortex-A9 processor. It also provides 32 MB NAND Flash memory for each processor system and 8MB NOR Flash memory for the Cortex-A9 processor system. For storage, two SATA ports are available, supporting up to four hard drives.
In terms of I/O, the T1042RDB-PA has eighteen different I/O ports for the Power Architecture processor, including eight GPIOs, two CAN bus connectors, and two dual board headers for Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI), Inter-Integrated Circuit (I2C) and Universal Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter (UART) communication.
The T1042RDB-PA board also has several on-board devices for reading several input signals, such as an analog module that reads voltage from the analog inputs provided by 4-20mA, 0-5/10VDC, as well as an electret microphone input. Additionally, it contains an onboard green LED that lights up when powered and LEDs for signal status indication.
The most important feature of the T1042RDB-PA board is its power consumption profile. It has an overall low power dissipation rate, of 0.62 W, and power saving features, such as dynamic voltage and clock scaling (DVFS) and clock gating, which make it ideal for applications that require low power and high performance. It supports a wide input voltage range of 5-20V, as well as different power supply options, from on-board linear power supply to external, DC-DC converters.
