Aluminum electrolytic capacitors, about the size of a thumb, are a component found in almost all electronic devices. They store and quickly release electrical energy, acting as voltage buffers to protect electronic components. TC73 are high-end components offering superior performance and reliability compared with conventional electrolytic capacitors. Let’s take a look at their application field and working principle.

Application Field

TC73 are suitable for high-performance applications such as automotive, aviation, medical devices, and home entertainment systems, where reliability is paramount. They have a wide temperature range and can operate in temperatures ranging from -40°C to +105°C. With their long life, high ripple current capability and high ripple resistance, they are often the only choice for harsh environment applications. With a much longer lifespan than ordinary electrolytic capacitors, TC73 are designed to meet the highest safety and quality standards.

Working Principle

Aluminum electrolytic capacitors, like other capacitors, store an electric charge by collecting and then releasing energy. This is achieved by creating an electric field between two electrodes, usually made of aluminium and surrounded by an electrolyte. However, unlike other capacitors, TC73 also have an additional layer of conductive material between the two electrodes, which acts as a filter and protects the m from overcharge and overvoltage.

When current runs through the capacitor, the outer layer of material blocks any incoming electrons, preventing the excess buildup of charge. This layer also allows electrons to pass through easily in both directions, thus enabling the capacitor to work at higher frequencies. The result is a capacitor with better performance in terms of its charge and discharge cycles, and better protection against damage from voltage spikes.

The typical lifetime of TC73 aluminum electrolytic capacitors are at least 16,000 hours at an operating temperature of 85°C, making them highly suitable for durable, high-performance applications in extreme environments.
