Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors

Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are specialized capacitors which are constructed of two aluminum foils, separated by a dielectric material, which use an electrolytic solution as the conducting medium. These capacitors are designed to hold higher current and higher voltage at lower equivalent series resistance (ESR) than other types of capacitors. The two aluminum foil electrodes are the most important sections of an electrolytic capacitor, which form the anode and cathode of the device. The electrodes are separated by an insulating dielectric material such as paper, ceramic, or polypropylene. The dielectric is soaked with an electrolyte which provides the medium for charge separation.
